NEW YORK - Il piccolo velivolo che si e' schiantato contro un grattacielo a Manhattan, a New York, sarebbe un elicottero. E' quanto ha dichiarato il dipartimento dei Vigili del Fuoco. In un primo tempo, l'emittente Wabc aveva diffuso la notizia secondo cui si trattava di un aereo, poi confermata anche dalla Federal Aviation Administration. (Agr)

NEW YORK - Il presidente degli Stati Uniti, George Bush, e' stato informato dello schianto del piccolo aereo contro un grattacielo di New York. Al momento, le indicazioni in possesso della Casa Bianca fanno supporre che si sia trattato di un incidente e non di un attentato terroristico, anche se le autorita', per ora, non escludono nulla. Anche il sindaco di New York, Michael Bloomberg, si trova sul posto per sorvegliare da vicino i soccorsi. (Agr)

Two dead as aircraft crashes into Manhattan building

...Military fighter jets were patrolling several U.S. cities as a precaution, the North American Aerospace Defense Command said. "NORAD fighters are airborne over numerous cities. They are airborne now as a prudent measure," said NORAD spokeswoman Kyle Combs. She did not say which cities were being patrolled, or how many, but added the fighters were sent up right after the plane crashed into the building...

...Il bilancio è di quattro morti: due persone nell'edificio, e due a bordo del velivolo. Una di queste è Cory Lidle, 34 anni, pilota e noto giocatore della squadra di baseball dei New York Yankees. L'aereo era di sua proprietà. Come riferisce il dipartimento di polizia, potrebbero esserci "molti feriti". Alcune persone - fra le quali un uomo con la moglie incinta - sarebbero rimaste intrappolate negli appartamenti ai piani superiori rispetto a quelli che hanno preso fuoco...

Mi viene da pensare che comunque passa il tempo, ma alla fine non risulta così difficile per un aereo avvicinarsi a Manhattan e "puntare" sui grattacieli... mi aspettavo altre misure di sicurezza...

Official: No Distress Call From Lidle's Plane

Investigators said it's too early to determine what caused the crash. But a witness said the plane appeared to be trailing smoke and was flying erratically. The small plane was equipped with a parachute so it could float to Earth in case of a mishap. But the parachute apparently did not engage...
