Non riesco più ad installare!!!

Ciao a tutti! Dopo essere capitato per caso su un sito giapponese, il computer ha eliminato norton internet security 2005 da solo e ora oltre ad essere lentissimo (il pc) non riesco più ad installare nessun programma che scarico da internet. Ho scaricato dal sito della symantec la versione prova di norton e non posso installarla, fà tutta la procedura per l'istallazzione ma quando è ora di installare si stacca e non fà più niente,come tutti gli altri programmi che scarico. Come posso fare? Grazie in anticipo

Ci ho già provato, ma non ho più nemmeno un punto di ripristino. Si sono eliminati pure quelli!!!

mi sa che devi formattare e reinstallare il s.o.
poi dopo aver installato i tuoi programmi,dati account, impostazioni personali, fai subito una immagine del HD con True Image o equivalente, cosi sei al riparo da ogni inconveniente

Il servizio Windows Installer è avviato?
Puoi verificarlo digitando da riga comando

Services.msc

posizionandoti poi sul servizio che ti ho detto che deve essere avviato o manuale.
Se è in manuale prova ad avviarlo e vedere se non escono messaggi di errore!

Ho provato ad attivare windows installer ma niente, non lo prende comunque.
Se riesco preferirei evitare di formattare, non è il mio computer, ma quello dell'ufficio di mio padre. Ho 40 gb di documenti...
Comunque guardando nei file temporanei, nel word pad di norton mi vengono fuori queste scritte, sapete dirmi cosa sono?

La formattazione anche se risolve tutto è un provvedimento eccessivo. So che sono ansioso, però dato che ci sono i sintomi (pc rallentato, blocco delle installazioni) darei un'occhiata al log di hijackthis.
