[*buntu] Problemi dual boot con grub

Salve, è da ieri che sto combattendo con questo boot loader, vi spiego la situazione, ho un portatile su cui è installato win xp, l' hdd era diviso in due partizioni una per windows, e l' altra per i dati. Sono andato ad installare Ubuntu(ver 7.04), ho eliminato la partizione dati, e ricreata una più piccola dove ospitare linux. A questo punto Ubuntu parte e funziona a meraviglia, quando però tento di partire con Windows mi esce Errore 12 Invalid device request .

Chiedo lumi...ho già provato con i comandi root (hd0,0) e setup (hd0) dalla console di grub, avevo trovato su internet che questa poteva essere una possibile soluzione, ma non ha funzionato.
