Try the following steps:

1) boot your WinXP Home CD.
2) choose repair/recovery
3) From the Recovery Console do the following:

c:\chkdsk /R (checks the drive for any bad sectors and recovers readable info)

c:\fixboot (specify your boot disk if its not c:\)
