Vorrei sapere se c'e' un modo per disabilitare la ripartenza in Modalita' Provvisoria dopo che il precedente avvio e' fallito. O, per dirla in altro modo, se c'e' la possibilita' di impostare il menu' di avvio in modo che il default sia 1 (Avvio Normale) e non 3 (modalita' provvisoria) quando W98 riparte dopo un avvio fallito.
Ho scaricato l'utility 'Boot Options' di Gregory A. Wolking dal sito di PC Magazine, ma ne' questa, ne' l'articolo della Microsoft Knowledge Base Q118579 ('Contents of the Msdos.sys File') mi sono stati di aiuto: infatti e' possibile aggiungere la riga BootMenuDefault=1 nella sezione Options del MSDOS.SYS, ma quando l'avvio normale e' interrotto, il successivo avvio presenta un menu' il cui default e' 3 (Modalita' provvisoria) e non 1 (Modalita' Normale).
Perche' disabilitare la modalita' provvisoria?
Ho il seguente problema: lavoro abitualmente su un computer remoto utilizzando un programma di telecollegamento. Spesso il computer remoto, nonostante la presenza di UPS, viene spento da prolungati e frequenti blackout. Questo non e' un grosso problema, in quanto ho configurato il programma di accesso remoto in modo che parta automaticamente con Windows. Se tuttavia, come e' successo spesso recentemente, la graziosa Enel riattacca la corrente a singhiozzo, succede che durante la fase di avvio normale si verifichi un nuovo blackout.
Il successivo riavvio viene quindi eseguito in modalita' provvisoria (dopo il timeout di 30 secondi programmato), e non viene quindi caricato ne' l'host di telecollegamento ne' il Microsoft Fax.
L'unico modo che ho per rimettere le cose a posto e' di recarmi fisicamente presso la sede remota e riavviare il sistema.
Qualsiasi aiuto sara' graditissimo.

I downloaded your Utility (by Gregory A. Wolking) 'Boot Options' but neither this, nor the Microsoft KB Q118579 ('Contents of the Msdos.sys File') helped me: as I can add the line BootMenuDefault=1 to Msdos.sys Options Section, but when system hungs at startup, the following startup has the Option 3.Safe Mode (and not 1) activated.
You could ask 'why disabling Safe Mode'?
My problem is the following: I usually work on a remote computer using a Remote Access Program. Quite frequently the unattended remote computer is struck by power black outs, but this is not a problem, as I configured the Remote Access Program to start automatically with Windows. This works quite well, unless power goes off just a few seconds after going on, i.e. when Windows is rebooting in Normal Mode; the effect is horrible because, after the power goes on again, Windows detects that previous booting instance failed (hung), shows the menu in which 3.(Safe Mode) is the default and after the time out (30 seconds) starts in Safe Mode, and obviously does not start the Remote Access Program (and the Microsoft Fax Program as well), so I cannot connect anymore to the remote computer unless I fisically go to the remote site, click on Start, Close Session, Restart Windows.
Any help would be much appreciated.
